Pending House Bill Would Make Auto Insurance Clearer
Pennsylvania House Bill 2575 proposes amending Title 75, a law dealing with motor vehicles, by changing the complex language to make the laws more understandable to the average citizen. For example, instead of using the phrases "full tort" and "limited tort," House Bill 2575 would change the wording to "full right to sue" and "limited right to sue."
Also included in House Bill 2575 is the requirement that insurance companies give a list of all available options to clients, rather than selling only one type of policy.
The last change 2575 brings to Title 75 is raising the minimum coverage from 15/30 to 25/50 for bodily injury coverage. What this means is that when someone is injured in an accident, you can be awarded up to $15,000. However, all parties may only be awarded $30,000 total per accident. These numbers have stayed the same for 30 years and due to inflation and the rise of costs, $15,000 is not enough coverage anymore. 2575 proposes to raise these minimums to $25,000 and $50,000, respectively.
We at Dale E. Anstine encourage motor vehicle owners to contact their state legislators for passage of House bill 2575, a bill that seems long overdue. This Bill will bring people more options, better coverage and fewer headaches.
